Strategy and Tactic

Philipp and Julian Autenrieth: "The best tactic and strategy decide the outcome, while the boat and the conditions are more or less the same for everyone.  Whoever can make the best out of these conditions, wins."

"Sailing is fun even with no wind!"

Daniela sails on a PC

Daniela prefers sailing in a lot of wind , so as in the German championship in 2015 , when she showed the boys how fit she is physically. From her coach George Blaschkiewitz she learned the tactical sailing. And when there is no wind, or, as here at the trade fair "boot" , then she sails on PC with their girlfriends.

Daniela Bartelheimer - German champion in Optimist

Daniela Bartelheimer

The new German Champion wins top rankings (1,1,1,1,2,1(17),4). Right from the first day of racing Daniela was always in the lead and could not be displaced from winning the series. It was an unbelievable 9 points which separated her from Cecimo Zahn, the runner-up, followed by Klemen Semelbauer from Slovania. Before the German Championship 2015, Daniela competed in the Optimist European Championships at Pwllheli / North Wales. Although Daniela's home sailing club in Inning is located directly on the opposite bank from the organising Augsburger Sailors Club (ASC) on lake Ammer/Ammersee, it can hardly be said that she had a home advantage. Over the past months she has trained mostly on the Baltic Sea and Lake Garda, leaving her little time to train in Bavaria. The last overall victory of a girl winning the German Championship was in 2005 when Svenja Weger won this award.

On the first day there were no complaints about a lack of wind

Daniela in action

Everything went really well during the Championship both on water and on land, at lake Ammer/Ammersee in the south of Germany. On the first day there were no complaints about a lack of wind. In the first race there were gusts of 23-25 running to 28 knots from the west. For the second race there was less wind which nevertheless blew 16-20 knots, and in the third race 12-14 knots.

Wind with 20-28 knots

On the following mornings there was not enough wind even to attempt a start. Local sailors said this was due to a thermal wind which subsides during the morning. - And that was exactly what it did! However the standby time on land was never boring. In the ASC-boat shed Tactical Sailing game tables had been set up and it was the girls who proved to be the most "tactical" by beating the boys both on water -and on land.

There's always lots of activity in the ASC boat shed with Tactical Sailing

If there's no wind for sailing -
... then train your sailing tactics.
