Bruno: "What a pleasure!!!! We are very grateful for the opportunity to have Tactical Sailing inkl. Coach Toolbox with us. We will put it into practice with our children." Centro de actividades nauticas Monte Hermoso, is a sailing school where everyone has the opportunity to learn to sail for free and enjoy this passion. We call it "sailing for life". Thanks to the support of the municipality of Monte Hermoso, which provides us with the space at the Laguna de Sauce Grande (excellent regatta course), we can give courses there. We already have 20 children sailing Optimist and 20 adults in the Snipe and Pampero categories. We have instructors who are certified by the FAY (Argentine Yacht Federation): Valeria Vitale, Victor Damitio, Delfina Ordonez. Everything we do comes from our own initiative.

Hans Schroecker, Optimist Coach: "Visualizing the sailed path is very useful for beginners. The children were shown what ‘luffing’, ‘bearing away’ and ‘beating' mean. One child made the same mistake on the PC as on the water - they didn't hold the tiller calmly, rather they rowed around wildly. Then, on the PC, we practiced what you need to do to steer a boat correctly."
Heiner Mueller, Optimist Coach: "Here the children can learn easier how to correctly round a buoy. On the water, they sail directly towards the buoy, but then immediately stand still in the wind. Now I can show them the optimal path on the PC, namely, to sail past the buoy first and then round it." Start Exercise: "At the starting line I can simulate the situation with 8 boats and point out where to sail first, when should I turn. On the PC - I can show first, what we practice together on the water later on."
"We probably still have to practice a bit," was Léonie's first impression when sailing "boat against boat", when the sparring partner crossed the finish line first. But Leonie had created a difficult exercise while trying out the Trainer Toolbox - changing wind directions in 4x4 regions and gusts from different directions. In addition, the set "options" as guides were a useful addition to explaining the tactics: wind ladders, flags on the water and on the boat, the sailed path of the boats and the distance zones around the buoys. The Opti-Kids are from the Klever sailing community in Kleve on the Lower Rhine (Germany). Leonie: "There are different clubs in the region and so we switch between Kleve, Xanten and Geldern. Since there are only a few trainers in the corner, changing was my idea to involve as many sailors as possible. In addition, I am still at the leisure center Xanten at the sailing school and do opti crash courses there. It's always nice when you meet the kids again later in one of the clubs :)" See Léonie Mandel on Instagram and her "highlights": Sailing and Coach.
Detlef Hoepfner from the SVWK: "Nice, grounded (or what does that mean on the water?) Sailing community."
SVWK - Sailing Association Witten-Kemnade "... has the particular task of inspiring, training and promoting the youth for this sport. Sailing and club life of the SVWK, founded in 1994, were therefore characterized from the beginning especially by his youth department, and accordingly it is lively with us.
Detlef: "What do you do with a children's and youth department in winter?"
1. Water in a dish sink and wind from the fan
Nils has translated some chapters of our theory into model practice: how to better demonstrate keep courses, how to put on / take off - than on a small Optimist sailboat and a breeze of wind? So he built a wooden model, equipped it with a neat sword, mast and sail. All that was missing was wind (from a large fan) and water (in a reasonably large dish sink).
2. Tactical Sailing on PC: "Together to heat the buoys"
Where the computer is not used daily ... we meet a couple of times in the winter, and then we are glad to get some crafts or anything else to start. With great sailing strategy you do not have to come ? and I'm glad to find the right menu item at Tactical Sailing, where we then 'heat up the buoys' together on the screen ? The kids then finally settled on the task: sailing like this, that you get as many penalty points as possible." © Photos Detlef Hoepfner
© Carsten Kemmling: ”Is there a greater thing you can teach an 8, 9, 10 year old than sailing?” – with these words begins a captivating video clip from the renowned Portuguese Sailing Club Clube Naval de Cascais. The main actress can be seen on the left in the picture.

Name me another activity that teaches geometry, physics and mechanics while showing a young child that the Spirit is always more important than brute strength and that size and gender are irrelevant to success? A sport in which the playing field of wind and water changes with each race to remind children that nature is always dynamic and at the same time the rules of sportsmanship and safety at sea are followed? Lessons that teach them how to assemble complex sails and rigging, how to care for their own clothing and not to panic if they capsize. Lessons that teach them to use their judgment to trust, take responsibility for their decisions and have no one to blame but themselves. A lifestyle that begins with a love of the water and ends with the ability to understand the secret language of waves, clouds, currents and the predictable movements of a boat. Sailing is a way to see the world without a digital screen.(Wesley Hsu)."
