Florian Krauss (YCSS) & Jannis Suemmchen (CYC) - World Champions at the Youth Sailing WORLD Championships 2021 in the 420! The joy was huge, the well-deserved jump into the Arabian Sea off the Sultanate of Oman was a real cool down for the young World Champions 2021! On their return to Munich, their "hand luggage" included an impressive trophy, donated back in 1971 and now presented to a German team for the first time in 50 years. The engravings mention the names of famous sailors, such as the 2012 Olympic champion Tom Slingsby from Sydney (AUS).
The Tactical Sailing team congratulates the successful sailors on their world championship title in the 420! It was an extremely successful year for both of them - as they already won the German championship title in their sailing class in autumn 2021! Jannis trains at the Chiemsee Yacht Club (CYC) while Florian has been at home at the Yacht-Club Seeshaupt (YCSS) on Lake Starnberg (near Munich) for many years. The latter is now helmsman in the 420 and, with Jannis as crew, a perfect and - as the results show - extremely successful duo. The Tactical Sailing Team was able to get to know the CYC and its children's and youth work last October on the occasion of the International Optimist Youth Championships. Both clubs stand out for their dedicated youth work and have made a name for themselves with many successes of "their" young sailors, such as with sailors like Nils Sternbeck from YCSS, runner-up in the 2013 Opti World Championships, and Tina Lutz from CYC with a silver medal at the 2021 Olympics in the 49FX.

Sigrid Beckmann, Vice President of IODA, opened the championship in a solemn ceremony. The Optimist South American Championship 2021 has started with 160 competitors in Argentina at Club Nautico Mar del Plata, about 400 km south of Buenos Aires.
Matías Capizzano and Nicolás Benvenuto are the "heads", the organisers, in whose hands the entire planning and implementation of this major event lies. Matias, an internationally renowned sports photographer, is best known for his spectacular photos at many Optimist championships and the publication of these photos in a great illustrated book. The South American countries of Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico and Uruguay are represented here with their young sailing talent, but guests from Bermuda, Canada, Lithuania and the USA have also confirmed their participation in the championship.
Pablo Villar: The participants of the championship in Argentina can be provided with a training tool by "Tactical Sailing" - and even in Spanish. The idea for this Spanish version of "Tactical Sailing" came from Pablo Villar (ARG), who has been working intensively in Buenos Aires for years to promote young Argentinean sailing talent. Pablo: "Tactical Sailing Tool surely will help them understand the reasons behind tactical decisions and make them better tactical sailors!"
Pablo Villar: The participants of the championship in Argentina will be provided with a training tool by "Tactical Sailing(TS)" - and even in a Spanish language version. The idea for this Spanish language version came from Pablo Villar (ARG), who has been working intensively in Buenos Aires for years to promote young sailing talent. The Tactical Sailing "Trainer Toolbox" offers computer simulations of important tactical exercises used by successful sailors and coaches. Examples in video clips can be seen on You Tube.
Pablo: "The Tactical Sailing Tool will certainly help them understand the rationale behind tactical decisions and make them better tactical sailors!"

Sailing on the open sea off the coast of Argentina - a special challenge for the kids! High waves and strong winds become a risky "up and down" ride on the water for the small boats, which can quickly "get out of hand"!

David Coates from USA wins the Open Championship and Franco Sanchez from Mar del Plata is the new South American champion.
Final Results: 1. David Coates USA 22863; 2. Logan Mraz USA 17118; 3. Franco Sanchez ARG 4014 (Best South American) ...10. Julieta Benedetto Josef ARG 3950 (Best Girl). The most applauded words were in charge of the Chairman of the event,
Matias Capizzano, who could not avoid the emotion of the task accomplished after so many obstacles put by Covid to this event that was originally scheduled for March 2020.

On Wednesday the team racing event was run. Parents and friends rarely have the opportunity to become cheer in a sailing competition, but the inland waters of the port have that privilege. The joy was all of Argentina: everyone jumped into the water and in the background was the fans who from the breakwater did not stop cheering with flags and songs as if it were a soccer field.
The winning team from Argentina was a mix of athletes from different cities like San Pedro, Buenos Aires, Rosario and Mar del Plata (Francina Paz, Delfina Kuttel, Julieta Benedetto, Lucas Vogt and Lucas Penetreath) while the runner-up team from Peru was integrated by Isabella Suazo , Diego Riofrio, Ana Sofia Bedoya, Arantza Valdiviezo and Salvador Marchena. Thus, in a day of great emotion, the team championship ended, but on Thursday the action of the individual competition will continue with more regattas in the open sea.
Anne-Marie Hamm and Tina Lutz opened the 2021 Optimist Class Championship at the Chiemsee Yacht Club (CYC) in Prien (Bavaria). Tactical Sailing is a guest at the CYC and offers the participants the "Game Against the Wind - Boat Against Boat" to pass the time, in calm and in stormy weather. A specially erected "tent" attracted the kids to play in the "Game Hall".
On the 1st day of racing, too much wind blew during the day with 8 Bft! The first start was delayed until late in the evening, before the race officer Kai Schreiber and his team started a race for the almost 200 Optimists. In addition to the sailors from Germany, guests from Austria, Italy, Denmark, the USA and Sweden also came.
See all photos kids playing in the "play tent at CYC" on facebook.
During the day tactical sailing was trained playing on the PC. The results on the PC resulted in a 'ranking list' with the best 15 participants.
Clemens and Jasper followed with only a few tenths of a second behind!. See more information (German laguage) about the championship at the club on www.cyc-prien.de and at the German Optimist Dinghy association DODV: www.dodv.org/regatta/IDJM-2021 .
