We recommend a mouse with mouse-wheel. It’s 5° fine steering allows you to turn around buoys and very precisely slip into a free space.
Game pads with programable keystrokes are suitable. Make sure you buy a pad that includes software to profile for a game and can setup short cuts. Recommended and tested* are e.g.: Logitech Wireless Game Pad F710; Save and import at Logitech Profiler Setup a file: Tactical Sailing Profile (zip). The operating commands are listed here: Commands (pdf)
* Notice: Game pads look all the same for consoles like X-Box, Play-Station, etc. but these are not useable. Look for e.g. Logitech with programmable keys. There is no programming required, just fill in a table for the keys to be pressed. There is a wireless (USB-Stick F710, recommended) or corded (F510) version available.

Note: The separate number pad at the external Logitech keyboard makes it easier for the 4th player also, instead of using the numbers "8 and 9" in the top row of numbers, there to use numbers: "9 and 3(!)", "Page up" and "Page down" for control of his boat for fine steering "Luff up and Bear away". These keys corresponds to "Page move": "Page up" and "Page down". The Num-Lock has to be set to "off" for this option.
Start Tactical Sailing on your laptop / notebook and connect it to your TV. The compound can also be prepared via a cable with HDMI port or via Apple TV wirelessly. For the operation of Tactical Sailing the keyboard and often external keyboards are used.

Any screen size lager than this, e.g. 27", and 1920x1420 pixels will reduce the window size to 1080 pixels, depending on the power of the Graphics card. Select display format 4:3 (instaed of 16:9) to display max. window size.
A powerful iMac 27 Retina (model 2014) with OS X 10.10 Yosemite is capable of the Tactical Sailing window in standard format 1024x748 (4:3) to expand to the full screen size 27 inches (68.58 cm). The model iMac 27 is used in a sailing club and is working properly, the big advantage for workshops is 27 inches (68.58 cm) of display size. The Mac is equipped with the 3.5 Ghz processor, Intel Core i5, 8 GB, with 5120x2880 pixel Retina display and the powerful graphics card AMD Radeon R9 M290X 2048 MB (!), so that the power of this Mac's is total sufficient for the Tactical Sailing window to expand in full size at about 3600x2700 pixel (4:3 format).
A power Windows-PC with Windows 7 or 8 and a Touch Screen makes operation on the screen possible, an alternative to a keyboard, mouse or game-pad. Model from e.g HP TouchSmart 600-1410 PC is functioning fine in a Sailing Club. The large screen size of 23" and 1920x1080 Pixels, Intel CORE i3 Processor and a powerful graphics card NVIDIA GeForce G210 (512 MB), allows the system to show a full size window of up to 1024x1080 pixels.
