Current status: NO errors in Windows - indication of memory requirements in macOS X (October 25, 2023)

Tactical Sailing software is tested whenever computer manufacturers change their operating systems (Mac, Windows, Linux). In individual cases there will be adjustments that we publish to maintain compatibility. Possible problems and solutions should be taken into account, such as: Mac and Windows. Often the error was fixed by an update to the operating systems (Mac, Windows, Linux).

In most cases, the error was resolved quickly and eliminated by an update to the Tactical Sailing Software. Check your installed Tactical Sailing (TS) version, see the main menu: HELP/Version. See instructions below to update or UPGRADE your program. Tactical Sailing(TS) offers free “updates” to the TS Software 2.0 for download. You can download the current software version TS 2.0 for tactical games, trainer toolbox and trainer highlights here.

Status - 2023 macOS X Catalina - Note memory requirements

Status - macOS X Catalina - Tactical Sailing "Highlights" - Available storage space

The Tactical Sailing program (approx. 130 MB) uses the available storage space on your Mac up to the maximum physical limit, e.g. up to 6 GB of 8 GB. We cannot influence this effect. The Mac app "Activity Monitor" calculates the currently used storage space.

Mac:
- Slow animations of menu display and structure,
- Problems opening and closing main and submenus,
- Tactical Sailing app is unresponsive for a while.
- The Tactical Sailing program (approx. 130 MB) uses the available storage space on your Mac up to the maximum physical limit, e.g. up to 6 GB of 8 GB. We cannot influence this effect.
- Solution: If the Tactical Sailing app is unresponsive, choose “Quit Immediately” from the Mac main menu. Then restart “Tactical Sailing”!

Status - 2020 - 2022 Version 2.0 macOS "Ventura"

macOS "Sonoma": See your options A), B) or C) to additionally install Tactical Sailing - as of 06.01.2024

We have tested Big Sur, Monterey, Ventura, and Sonoma with Tactical Sailing(TS).
>>> TS does not start, an error message is displayed! Click "Ignore/Cancel". Tactical Sailing (TS) does NOT run on Big Sur, Monterey, Ventura, and Sonoma, TS requires "Catalina" or earlier OS X versions!

Apple has published instructions on how to use macOS "Sonoma" and also install macOS "Catalina" on a 2nd volume, see below option A). You can then continue to use Tactical Sailing on the 2nd volume. The advantage of this method is that you can continue to use your familiar / or new "macOS environment" with programmes and data, the selection of "Startup volume" 1 or 2 is made very simple in the standard menu "System settings" or press and hold the "option" key when starting the system.

You have the following options to use Tactical Sailing:

A) Set up "Catalina" on a "2nd volume" with OS X Catalina (recommended, free to create) or
B) Use "Parallels" with Windows (if you're already using it anyway) or
C) Use "Boot Camp" with Windows (if you're already using it anyway).

Status - 2014 to 2019 Version 1.0

Mac and Windows 2019 Version 1.0

All bugs are fixed. Tactical Sailing software is tested when computer manufacturers change their operating systems (Mac, Windows, Linux). In some cases it may be subject to adjustments, which we publish here in order to maintain the compatibility.  Following bugs are reported and are fixed:

Mac: The menu display and structure's animations are very slow (November 2014). 
o Selection of Main Menu and sub menu open and close slowly.
Mac and Windows: Coach Toolbox – 4 players, all scenes with 4 boats (March 2016).
◦ If 4 players hit the keys, boats do not respond to the keystroke.
◦ New key assignment for one boat: keys 'K-L' instead of 'Arrow' left <- and -> right!

All bugs are fixed. A solution to the problem is always be posted on our website "Tactical Sailors Lounge". In all cases, the error was rectified quickly and resolved by a software update, see UPDATE here.
